Celebrities
When did we Start Rewarding Arrogance?
Written by Queen Bee 04 Oct 2009

I remember the exact time when I turned my back on supporting celebrities such as Pink and Britney Spears, and that was when they produced songs in which they portrayed themselves as arrogant brats!

From my recollection it was Pink's "So What!" that launched the cult following she has today. Is it only me that was utterly repulsed by the brat mentality she displayed in these lyrics?

What sort of self-respecting person in a so-called position of influence should be boasting recklessly about wanting to get in trouble and start a fight? What sort of message does that send to the children, and the bullies, of today?

To top it all off, she then ignores the severity of her statements and justifies her actions by claiming "So what, I'm still a rock star!" Is she claiming that because she is a celebrity she is exempt from bad behaviour and from the law?

My biggest concern, however, is not that Pink has the mentality to advertise such immature behaviour in her music, but that the people let her get away with this by rewarding her with a cult following.

How many self-obsessed, in-your-face brats have you let get away with this type of behaviour in your life, let alone rewarded? When did we start rewarding such behaviour?

Britney Spears is no exception, when the height of her so-called comeback was with the release of her "Circus", where she arrogantly claimed "there are only two types of people" and "two types of guys"; those who can "hang" with her, and those that are "scared".

Britney, maybe there are only two types of people in your world, but the real world is a lot more complex. There may also be at least one other type of guy, maybe the type that do not want to hang with the likes of you?

I think Pink is only really "big" in Australia... I think she's just like a "normal" star everywhere else. Actually, it is funny that you have put Pink and Britney in the same boat, cos Britney is only just now planning her first ever tour of Australia... coincidentally after Pink had so much success here for her month-long tour.
