Before beginning, I would just like to state that I do not have a problem with fat people, just with many of the attitudes surrounding them.
I have often been told that I am unfair in my criticism of fat people, being told that "we are who we are". Indeed this is true, but I believe this phrase is being wrongfully utilised as some sort of excuse; a justification for not having to take responsibility for one's own physical appearance.
Now, do not get me wrong, I am happy to acknowledge and respect those unfortunate souls whose obesity is the result of direct underlying medical issues, but I do not for a second believe that the massive increase of obesity across the world is due solely to medical implications. For the majority of us, our weight issues are within our control.
I want to propose that for those fat people hiding falsely behind the phrase "we are who we are", you strongly try telling that to the sweat I shed during a hard workout, the muscle fatigue I experience, and the anxiety I feel when walking past a mouth-watering cream-filled donut that I resist the urge to consume. Look into my trolley in the supermarket and take note of the absence of soft drink, potato chips, chocolate, and anything else that you do not have the will-power to refuse from your own trolley.
"We are who we are" is not a justification for our physical destinies, it is the recognition of the varying types of minds out there; some stronger, some weaker. The defensiveness of a fat person is offensive to me, and I'm sure to all those people who make those daily sacrifices to control their own weight. And to come across the odd aggressive fat person who has the nerve to attack a fit and healthy person on their morals is just blatantly rude and delusional.
I am not lazier than you, nor am I weaker minded. I am more motivated, stronger, and passionate. Do not hide behind the excuse that "we are who we are", as it is an insult to anyone who has the courage to fight such difficulties. I am not saying that it is easy, I am just saying that it is time for you to take responsibility for yourself and stop making excuses.
